Written as the text for Sven Gunnarsson's Pelican Scroll, so all the usual requirements had to be met.
Names of the Monarchs concerned, identifying the date, and place.
Sven son of Gunnar
service is giving
Freely and frankly
to king as to cottar
labour for kingdom
is love of his living
whether in High Council
or carrying water
kings burden kens he
thrice has he borne it
Bent he his will
to the weal of the kingdom
Hallowed his name is
in halls where clerks gather
Swift comes his counsel
to Steward and Law keep
lightfooted Loki
made mischief in Nordmark
Tallies and records
Were hidden and twisted
laughed then did Sven
made he a table
smooth and well ordered
carved with great cunning
he gathered the records
of every steading
drew from dark places
all that was hidden
untwisted the tallies
and cast them like runes
they fell all in order
upon the great table
Cunning in smithcraft
glad handed giver
many a weaponthane
bears his hand’s bounty
Girded with glory
A belt all unblemished
joyful in battle
Laughing and lethal
Birds came from every
part of the kingdom
perched on the shoulders
of king and queen
Whispered of wisdom
of which they had heard
counselled the crown
bid Sven to Share it.
ThorvaldR King, Fiona Queen
called Sven to court
at Coronet Tourney
bid him to go
and brood with the birds
deep was the counsel
shared was the mystery
of the bloodied breast
Came then the days
In Attemark's lands
where fives of men
strove at Sven’s Bidding
witnessed they all
the King and Queen’s Will
as Pelicans gathered
to welcome a Brother
