William and Æringunnr

Page history last edited by Dan Towse 13 years, 8 months ago

Ulfr, by the grace of God, King of Drachenwald, lord of Frankmark, Viscount of the Tors d’Sud, and Caoimhe Queen, Lady and Viscomtess of the Same, to the archbishops, bishops, abbots, earls, barons, justiciars, foresters, sheriffs, reeves, servants, and all bailiffs and our faithful people greeting. Know that by the suggestion of Good men and for the comfort of our soul and those of all our predecessors and of our heirs, to the honor of all Good and the exaltation of noble society, and the improvement of our kingdom, by the advice of our predecessors, the Dukes and Earls of the Kingdom of Drachenwald, and Duchesses and Countesses of the Same, and of The Barons of Insulae Draconis, and Baronesses of the same, and others of our faithful.

In the first place we have granted to William MacBrennan and Æringunnr Yrsudottir lately Prince and Princess of Insulae Draconis, and by this present Charter confirmed, that throughout all Kingdoms we and our heirs forever create and declare them to be Viscount and Viscountess, and we will uphold and maintain them with rights entire and liberties uninjured in this their estate; which we will observe and which we will shall be observed in good faith by our heirs forever.

Further, No scutage or aid shall be imposed upon them in our kingdom except for the ransoming of our body.

Their Estates shall have all their ancient liberties and free customs, as well by land as by water

They shall not be compelled to perform any greater service for their knight’s fee, or for any other of their free tenements than is owed from it.

They Shall be eligible to sit as Our Justicars, in our properly constituted Shire Assizes.

They are allowed henceforth to go out from our kingdom, and to return, safely and securely, by land and by water, saving their fidelity to us, except in time of war for some short time.

Of those abbeys for which they have charters of kings of Drachenwald, or ancient tenure, they shall have their custody when they have become vacant, as they ought to have.

Wherefore we will and firmly command that William and Æringunnar shall have and hold all the aforesaid liberties, rights and concessions, well and peacefully, freely and quietly, fully and completely, for themselves and their heirs, from us and our heirs, in all things and places, forever, as before said. It has been sworn, moreover, as well on our part as on the part of the barons and peers, that all these things spoken of above shall be observed in good faith and without any evil intent. Witness the above named and many others.

Given by our hand in by the mere which is called Lough Mask, by Cahergal, in Eplaheimr on the 22nd day of August, in the third month of our reign.
